La Journée du
Patrimoine organisée à Paris (et partout en France) le 15 et 16 septembre a
permis aux touristes et aux Parisiens de découvrir des lieux qui sont normalement
inaccessibles au grand public. Il y avait beaucoup de choix et on aurait pu
passer plusieurs jours à découvrir la ville ! Après avoir fait la queue
pendant deux heures, Katarina et moi sommes finalement entrées dans l’Assemblée
Nationale. C’est là, à l’Hôtel de Lassay, que l’Assemblée qui compte 577
députés légifère et prend des décisions qui sont importantes pour toute la France.
During the
European Heritage Days, on the 15th and 16th of September
tourists and Parisians alike were able to visit monuments and buildings that
aren’t usually open for visitors. There was a lot to choose from but finally Katarina
and I ended up queuing for the Assemblée Nationale, the French Parliament. It
comprises 577 Members of Parliament and the great Salle des Séances where laws
are being debated and important decisions being taken is called Hôtel de
Lassay. Despite having to stand in line for two hours the visit was nice and
worth the while. Especially as it was free.

Plus tôt dans la
journée, j’avais visité l’Ambassade de Finlande qui se trouvait à côté de la
Seine. C’était chouette et intéressant de la voir même si la visite était
principalement (bien sûr) visée pour les Français qui voulaient savoir plus sur
la Finlande. Le bâtiment avait été récemment rénové donc il était en très bonne
état et j’ai même eu la possibilité de parler un peu avec l’ambassadrice !
(Oui, c’est une femme, vive l’égalité à la finlandaise !)
Earlier in the
day I went to see what the Finnish embassy looks like. It is situated right
next to the Seine, and not too far from the Assemblée Nationale actually. I
love Embassies, or rather the idea of an embassy as I haven’t actually been
going to them that often and so I really liked seeing what the newly renovated
embassy looked like. It was full of Finland-related information, Finnish design
and, of course, Angry Birds characters. The ambassador, a female
ambassador, was there also, and I even had the chance to exchange a few words
with her! Apparently female ambassadors are still a rarity in the 21st
century so I was glad to realize that Finland is one of the few countries to boast
one.
